Do Cats Get Heartworm Preventative. I do think minimal heartworm prevention and testing twice a year is a great idea. Heartworms don’t survive as well in cats as they do in dogs, but cats are still at risk for heartworm disease.
If mosquitoes are present, any cat not currently on heartworm preventatives is at risk. They should be given to all cats during their entire lives. Indoor cats are not impervious to heartworm.
