If the cat has a small wound, it usually means the cat is limping, but there is no swelling. Other injuries correct themselves with rest and warm compresses while more serious injuries require a veterinary visit for diagnosis and treatment. If the cat has swelling associated with a sprain, bruise or tendonitis, apply ice packs to the area for 15 minutes, twice daily. Check the cat's toes for signs of swelling, rubbing or chafing.
